Continua la telenovela MySpace, News Corp ha fatto sapere, durante la presentazione dei risultati finanziari dell’ultimo trimestre, che il social network è adesso ufficialmente in vendita.

Chase Casey ha affermato che News Corp è pronta per vendere MySpace, nonostante l’ultimo restyling sia stato accolto piuttosto bene (accluse di plagio a parte), il social network continua a perdere denaro ed utenti.

Gli introiti pubblicitari sono crollati oltre ogni aspettativa, il numero di utenti continua a scendere, non solo nessuno si registra più a MySpace, ma addirittura la maggior parte degli account risultano dormienti, fermi o abbandonati da mesi. Per far fronte a questa catastrofe, MySpace ha provato ad allearsi con Facebook, ma l’alleanza non ha certo migliorato la situazione, tanto che recentemente la società è stata costretta a licenziare buona parte della forza lavoro.

Casey è convinto che questo sia il momento giusto per vendere MySpace, secondo le sue parole la piattaforma ha ancora un buon potenziale, che evidentemente lui ed il suo team non riescono a sfruttare, la situazione potrebbe migliorare sotto una gestione più attenta, probabilmente.

Difficile prevedere chi possa essere interessato ad acquistare un social network in crisi, si parlava di Google, ma l’ipotesi sembra ormai naufragata. News Corp ha acquistato MySpace nel 2005, pagandolo 580 milioni di dollari, difficilmente riuscirà a venderlo ad una cifra superiore ai 200-300 milioni, molti analisti anzi pensano che il sito verrà venduto per circa 150 milioni di dollari.

Un vero peccato che MySpace versi in queste condizioni, ma del resto, è vero che i responsabili hanno aspetto davvero troppo prima di effettuare un restyling completo, e durante il boom di Facebook MySpace è rimasto a guardare, inerme, continuando a perdere migliaia di utenti ogni giorno, quando si è deciso di operare un cambiamento era già troppo tardi, anche se ovviamente il team sperava di poter riguadagnare l’interesse dei navigatori. Così non è stato purtroppo, ed oggi MySpace è in vendita.
