L’Università di Birmingham lancia un Master in Social Media

La parola social network e social in generale nel mondo dei media si sta diffondendo a macchia d’olio, e secondo il parere degli esperti dell’Università di Birmingham, per poter parlare seriamente di questo fenomeno ci vuole un Master…che c’è!
Secondo gli esperti è importante al giorno d’oggi avere una laurea, ma ancora di più avere un Master. Contro a tutte le ipotesi che si trattasse di un pesce d’aprile, la Birmingham City University ha dato il via al nuovo master in Social Media. L’esordio sul sito dell’Ateneo è simpatico e basato sotto forma di domanda e risposta:

“È per me un Master in Social Media?”
“Se sei laureato in discipline e/o culture mediatiche, hai esperienza sul Web, in Public Relations, nel campo del marketing e vuoi un’opportunità per esplorare l’area emergente dei Social Media attraverso una ricerca didattica e pratica, allora la risposta è si”.

I tempi per valutare una ipotetica iscrizione sono abbastanza lunghi, si parla infatti di avvio delle attività per settembre 2009. Questo perchè second Labnol, sono troppi su LinkedIn, su Twitter e sui curriculum che continuano a proclamarsi “esperti di social media”. Tutti questi personaggi – non certificati – cercano di usare la propria sommaria conoscenza del mondo del social networking e dei blog, wiki, ecc. proclamandosi “consulenti del Social Media”. Secondo AppScout, questo Master, invece, potrebbe essere una occasione utile ed interessante per ufficializzare il proprio titolo e le proprie conoscenze.
Pareri positivi sono arrivati dal network di The Telegraph che ha chiesto informazioni al professore titolare Jon Hickman ed a molti ipotetici eventuali studenti. Alcune delle risposte sono state particolari, come quella di una ventenne che ha dichiarato al quotidiano Jamie Waterman: “virtualmente, l’intero contenuto del corso tratta dei soli fondamenti. Moltissimi già li conoscono. Penso che sia un totale spreco di risorse universitarie”. Sarà un’idea diffusa o saranno costretti al numero chiuso per le troppe richieste di iscrizione?
