Uragano Sandy, false foto su Twitter

Abbiamo visto come l’uragano Sandy sia stato, per qualche giorno, l’argomento più popolare di internet, facendo balzare l’hashtag #hurricanesandy al primo posto delle tendenze Twitter. Naturalmente un evento del genere è stato ancora di più enfatizzato, nella sua drammaticità, dalle migliaia di foto dell’uragano postate sul web. Fotografie che per la maggior parte venivano scattate con gli smartphone e gli iPhone per essere caricate su Twitter e Instagram, e che per buona parte si sono rivelate un falso clamoroso.

Ad insinuare il sospetto che le foto più sorprendenti fossero in realtà solo un grosso fake è stato il magazine The Atlantic. Molte delle immagini reperite in rete erano frutto del photoshop, oppure provenivano da archivi fotografici che non avevano niente a che fare con l’uragano Sandy.

In entrambi i casi questo scherzetto ha portato agli autori una temporanea popolarità su Twitter, ma ha reso difficile stilare una documentazione fotografica credibile sui reali danni dell’uragano.

Per fare un po’ di chiarezza e separare il vero dal falso è nato un blog che porta proprio il nome Is Twitter Wrong, e che raccoglie tutti i fake postati sul social network. Le foto, segnalate dagli stessi utenti Twitter, vengono esaminate e poi classificate come REAL, FAKE, oppure UNVERIFIED quando non è possibilie risalire alla fonte.

Anche il Guardian in queste ore si sta dando da fare per smascherare i bugiardi, e chiede ai lettori di segnalare le fotografie fasulle su Twitter con l’hashtag #FakeSandy.
