Il progetto si chiama Vine ed è stato presentato come una nuova tipologia di piattaforma per il social networking, basato sulla possibilità di mettersi in contatto nelle situazioni di crisi ed emergenza. Ideato e realizzato da Microsoft, Vine, è attualmente disponibile on-line in versione beta solo a numero chiuso, ma ha comunque l’obiettivo di aprirsi a chiunque. Questo applicativo è proposto da Microsoft come uno strumento per gestire le operazioni svolte da gruppi di persone attraverso la rete e grazie alla geolocalizzazione. Infatti, il sistema permette di sapere immediatamente grazie alla grafica presente su mappa, cosa avviene in determinati luoghi e cità. Quindi, selezionando una mappa geografica di interesse si verrà a conoscenza ed avverrà il monitoraggio di cosa sta accadendo in quei luoghi.
Sulla mappa, vengono inoltre visualizzati tutti gli amici facenti parte del nostro network, avendo così un aggiornamento costante. L’interfacciabilità con Facebook è stata importante al punto che anche da Microsoft Vine sarà possibile vedere aggiornamenti di profilo e mssaggi pubblicati sul noto network sociale. Vine è interfacciabile con le notifiche sia alla e-mail che al cellulare, tutto ciò semplicemente utilizzando il proprio account di Windows Live ed invitando parenti, amici e conoscenti a condividere la propria rete di Vine.
