Secondo il New York Times, oggi ci sarà da parte di Ebay, il colosso delle aste on line, l’annuncio ufficiale della vendita di Skype, uno dei servizi chat e Voip più utilizzati in tutto il mondo. Quattro anni fa Ebay aveva acquistato Skype per 2.6 miliardi di dollari, ma secondo fonti interne all’azienda, Skype adesso verrebbe ceduta ad un prezzo inferiore, (circa 2 miliardi) ad un gruppo di investitori privati.

Dovrebbero far parte del gruppo di investitori Andreessen Horowitz, e una nuova società venture capital guidata dal co-fondatore di Netscape Marc Andreessen. Ma le voci dicono che Skype potrebbe anche “tornare a casa”, per essere ricomprata dai suoi stessi fondatori, cioè Niklas Zennström e Janus Friis.

Fra i motivi alla base di questa cessione, ci sarebbe il modesto utilizzo di Skype come sistema per i pagamenti online di Ebay, di molto inferiore alle aspettative della società di aste.
