Ultimamente si parla molto di Pinterest, e se prestiamo fede all’ultimo studio della società Experian, ne continueremo a parlare per molto tempo. L’Experian, società statunitense che si occupa di marketing, ha pubblicato il report 2012 per il Digital Marketer dove analizza i trend destinati a crescere nel corso dell’anno. Ma ad attrarre la nostra attenzione non sono le ipotesi contenute nel report quanto un dato che l’Experian dà per certo: in America oggi Pinterest è il terzo social network più popolare dopo Twitter e Facebook.

Con un incremento del traffico del 50% tra gennaio e febbraio 2012, Pinterest è diventato il terzo social più popolare degli Stati Uniti, con una punta di 21,5 milioni di visite solo nel corso dell’ultima settimana di gennaio, che è 30 volte il numero di visite totalizzato da Pinterest appena sei mesi fa.

Pinterest ha battuto LinkedIn, Google+ e tutta una serie di altri social network in corsa per il terzo posto grazie all’alto volume di traffico conquistato in brevissimo tempo. E a impedire a Pinterest di diventare il numero uno dei social media ci sono solo Twitter e Facebook, rispettivamente al secondo e al primo posto. Ma questi network hanno iniziato la scalata ben più di 5 anni fa, mentre Pinterest non ha che qualche mese di vita. Dunque è difficile prevedere cosa accadrà in futuro.

Pinterest in brevissimo tempo ha battuto colossi come Linkedin e Google Plus, due network che pur sono cresciuti tantissimo nell’ultimo periodo. LinkedIn tra il 2010 e il 2011 è cresciuto del 98%, e Google+ ha incrementato il suo traffico dell’800% tra agosto e dicembre 2011. Ma Pinterest ha superato ogni aspettativa.

Attualmente a sbarrare la strada di Pinterest restano Facebook e Twitter. Facebook è ancora il social network più popolare in America, e viene utilizzato quotidianamente dal 50% degli adulti, mentre Twitter nel 2011 ha avuto un boom di utenti del 45%.

Però sia Twitter che Facebook – lo ripetiamo – ci hanno impiegato cinque anni per raggiungere un simile risultato, mentre Pinterest sembra ci stia riuscendo in metà tempo. Dunque, se i dati forniti da Experian sono fondati, è possibile che Pinterest raggiunga la prima posizione tra i social network più popolari d’America già sul finire del 2012. E questa non è più un’ipotesi azzardata.
