In questo momento di crisi anche Google inizia ad avere qualche problema nella propria società. Si parla infatti di licenziamenti in corso e di servizi che non saranno più disponibili perchè ritenuti inutili e, in qualche caso, doppioni di servizi già affermati in rete e con i quali è inutile fare concorrenza. Per lo meno Google elimina solamente ciò che è in eccesso, superfluo, e quindi non è in totale collasso. Ecco quali sono i servizi che saranno eliminati.

Una tra le vittime più importanti è di certo Google Video. Sarebbe dovuto essere un valido rivale con Youtube, ma non ci sono confronti da fare. Troppa la differenza di utenza. Per questo Google ha comprato il più promettente e ha bloccato il suo video social network fatto in casa. Continuerà ad esistere ma non saranno più possibili gli upload di nuovo materiale.

Altro servizio a cui bisogna dare l’addio è Google Lively. Avrebbe dovuto tener testa a Second Life ma non ce l’ha fatta, non è mai decollato. Anche se erano stati introdotti diversi tool e plug-in per creare dei propri avatar tridimensionali, con tanto di ambientazione e massima interattività, non è piaciuto molto al popolo internauta.

Alla lista segue anche Google Jaiku, acquistato solo poco più di un anno e già destinato a essere chiuso. Doveva fare concorrenza a twitter ma a causa del continuo invite-only, anch’esso non ha mai preso il volo. Successivamente ad un downtime di twitter sembrava che Jaiku sarebbe davvero diventato un secondo punto di riferimento del microblogging ma, dopo i rimedi attuati subito dagli amministratori dell’ “uccellino”, la speranza è svanita.

Gli utlimi 4 servizi che vedranno l’apogeo sono: Notebook, che permetteva di prendere veloci annotazioni sul web delle informazioni più interessanti, soprattutto indirizzi URL; Catalog Search; Dodgeball, servizio di mobile social network e Mushup editori, utilizzato per creare mushup.
