Garmin e ASUSTeK per un nuovo mondo mobile-multimedia

Alleanza strategica di Garmin e di ASUSTeK per fortificare le due singole aziende nei settori di LBS, mobile e social networking, con la possibilità di distribuire dei cellulari definiti co-branded e location-centric.
La nuova linea di cellulari che la Garmin-Asus sta per lanciare sul mercato si chiamerà nüvifone™ e la diffusione di tali cellulari sarà prevista per il 2009 a partire dal giorno della presentazione che si terrà al Mobile World Congress Trade Show di Barcellona (dal 16 al 19 Febbraio del’anno corrente).
Min Kao, chairman e CEO di Garmin Ltd., ha dichiarato: “Crediamo che la convergenza dei dispositivi rappresenti una nuova opportunità che sta emergendo nel mondo della telefonia mobile, l’alleanza tra Garmin e ASUS è strategica per entrambe le aziende, in quanto ci permette di unire le nostre forze e mettere delle solide fondamenta per la creazione ed immissione sul mercato di telefoni cellulari innovativi e LBS-centric. Abbiamo collaborato con ASUS per oltre un anno sul primo nüvifone annunciato nel 2008 in virtù di un rapporto ODM. In base a questa esperienza siamo giunti alla conclusione che, facendo leva ed unendo le nostre rispettive aree di competenza, saremo in grado non solo di espandere significativamente la nostra linea di prodotto, ma anche di ridurre i tempi di sviluppo delle nuove soluzioni. Riteniamo che, grazie a quest’alleanza strategica, potremmo beneficiare di una posizione privilegiata per proporre i device mobili GPS-enabled più completi ed avanzati al mondo con la connettività più elevata“.

D’altro canto per l’altra compagnia si è espresso Jonney Shih, chairman di ASUSTeK Computer Inc. : “Questa alleanza consente ad ASUS e Garmin di unire la forza di due aziende nell’offrire al mercato mobile phone dai più elevati livelli qualitativi e di design. ASUS e Garmin credono entrambi nei continui investimenti nell’ambito della Ricerca & Sviluppo per mettere a disposizione delle persone e delle aziende sempre le soluzioni più all’avanguardia. Con questa alleanza le nostre aziende continueranno a sviluppare soluzioni innovative che semplificano la vita. Le nostre tecnologie dovrebbero essere al servizio dei nostri clienti: crediamo che tutti i dispositivi debbano funzionare al meglio non solo ovunque ed in ogni momento, ma in tempi e luoghi reali, e siamo certi che la serie nüvifone centrerà proprio questo obiettivo“.
Le prime indiscrezioni sono sulla funzionalità LBS (Location Base System) per la navigazione ed il software Ciao™ che è un’applicazione di social networking che integra la possibilità di installare le applicazioni per social network in un dispositivo mobile.
