Yahoo Fire Eagle: il servizio di geolocalizzazione per Facebook

Molto tempo fa vi abbiamo parlato di Latitude, un programma di geolocalizzazione di Google che permetteva di inviare a tutti, tramite cellulare, informazioni riguardanti alla propria posizione e a ciò che si stava facendo. Ve lo ricordate? Oggi vogliamo segnalarvi degli interessanti aggiornamenti di Fire Eagle, servizio simile distribuito da Yahoo, che permettono l’implementazione del programma sul social network Facebook.

Fire Eagle permette di:

  • Condividere la propria posizione con amici fidati su una mappa, grazie aggiornamenti inviati da internet o da cellulari su cui è installato il programma, ora anche da Facebook,
  • Pubblicare modifiche della propria posizione (quartiere o la città) al vostro stato d’aggiornamento Facebook,
  • Inviare brevi messaggi o ‘segnali’ sulla mappa e sul vostro stato d’aggiornamento ( ciò può essere usato per lasciare commenti e per organizzare meglio eventi e feste.

Il servizio per Facebook, Friends on Fire, è disponibile al seguente link. Selezionate Get Started e tramite una semplicissima guida saprete come impostare il tutto per geolocalizzarvi. Il servizio per il Web si chiama invece Fire Eagle Updater ed è una Add-on disponibile al seguente link.

Anche per Fire Eagle sorgono problemi di privacy come per Latitude. Chi garantisce la sicurezza dei dati inviati e ricevuti? In proposito parlano gli stessi sviluppatori sul blog affermando che:

As usual, we’ve spent a lot of time trying to work out the right way to give people control over their data and privacy. You can choose to share your location with trusted friends or with all of your social network, and you have separate control over whether or not to post updates and signals to your wall (at either neighborhood or city level).

Come di consueto, abbiamo speso un sacco di tempo cercando di capire il modo giusto per dare alle persone il controllo dei loro dati e tutela della privacy. È possibile scegliere di condividere la propria posizione con amici fidati o con tutti i social network, e si si dispone del controllo e scelta o meno di pubblicare gli aggiornamenti ed i “segnali” al proprio stato d’aggiornamento Facebook (o al quartiere o la città).
