Gran Bretagna e monitoraggio dei social network

Secondo il canale informativo nazionale della BBC, il Governo della Gran Bretagna sta vagliando il lancio di una proposta che darebbe il potere ai membri dello stesso di monitorare tutti i social network sul territorio, oltre che alle e-mail, alle chiamate telefoniche ed alla navigazione Internet fatta dai cittadini inglesi.
Agli attacchi della cittadinanza, il Ministero degli Interni britannico, si è difeso affermando che la raccolta di queste informazioni, recuperate solo ed esclusivamente per combattere la criminalità ed il terrorismo, sarà isolata solo all’elenco dei contatti e non alle conversazioni personali dei singoli utenti, riuscendo così a non cadere nell’illegalità invadendo la privacy degli individui.
Un portavoce del Ministero, ha ufficialmente dichiarato che queste nuove misure “di sicurezza” sono utili e necessarie per portare la legalità al passo con la tecnologia: “La rivoluzione delle comunicazioni nel nostro paese è stata rapida, le nostre modalità di raccolta di dati devono cambiare affinchè le forze investigative possano continuare ad affrontare il terrorismo e raccogliere prove”.
La proposta, comunque non ha avuto semplice vita fino ad oggi avendo trovato molte proteste contrarie a partire dagli esponenti politici di fazioni opposte e soprattutto dal team legale di Facebook, che essendosi espresso da bocca del Privacy Officer, Chris Kelly, ha definito un’azione del genere: “una misura di annientamento della privacy”.

D’altro canto, invece, sono state molteplici le approvazioni della proposta dal punto di vista Internazionale, al punto che molti dei governi europei hanno preso spunto dall’idea per creare un sistema di vigilanza “più tutelativo” on-line. L’ipotetica tutela che si riscontra in questo caso, non trova però riscontri dall’altra parte della medaglia, quella che riguarda direttamente i cittadini che si sentono colpiti nel proprio intimo, dopo aver fatto l’abitudine ad utilizzare i mezzi come i social network per le diffusioni dei propri dati personali tra amici e parenti. Staremo a vedere, qualora la proposta vada in porto, se ad avere la meglio sarà la privacy o la “sicurezza tecnologica”.
