Facebook: foto rimosse non rimosse

Avete appena cancellato il vostro account Facebook? Certo ora starete tranquilli che tutti i documenti che avevate immesso: email, dati personali e soprattutto foto degli album vengano rimosse, vero? Beh sappiate che non è per niente così. Come dimostrato da una recente studio della Cambridge School, le vostre immagini rimangono sui server del social network per molto tempo. Ciò a causa dei sistemi di backup di dati utilizzati per i server.Oltre a Facebook altri colossi presentano lo stesso problema. Prendesi come esempio Myspace, Bebo e hi5.

Ecco come ne parlano i ragazzi dell’Università:

Per il nostro esperimento abbiamo caricato un’ immagine di test su 16 siti selezionati con i permessi di default, quindi tenendo conto dell’URL dell’ immagine stessa. Ogni sito ha prontamente segnalato l’esistenza della foto grazie al suo indirizzo URL ad eccezione di Windows Lives Spaces, la cui richiesta di visualizzazione era seguita  cookies di sessione (complimenti a Microsoft per la sua concorrenza in materia di sicurezza). Abbiamo eseguito il nostro studio per 30 giorni e pubblicato i risultati di seguito. Tristemente solo 5 dei 16 siti testati ha omesso la revoca delle foto dopo 30 giorni.

Insomma, da quanto riemerge, le nostre foto sono ancora reperibili e presenti sui server di Facebook. Per quanto tempo? All’incirca 30 giorni o anche di più. Se qualcuno desidera alienarsi completamente dal servizio nell’atto stesso del click su “cancella profilo”, non può farlo.

Come affermato prima, non si tratta di furbacchieria da parte dei social network (o anche?), ma semplicemente dei sistemi di backup. Difatti è difficile tenere sotto controllo ed in  modo sicuro i miliardi di dati presenti sui server delle società, soprattutto per Facebook con i suoi 200 milioni di utenti. Ma se Microsoft riesce a garantire un’eccellente affidabilità, nonostante il suo Live Spice non sia più privilegiato come una volta, perchè non dovrebbe farcela la società di Zuckerberg?
