Weblin: l’instant messaging in 3D

Weblin è un client di instant messaging con avatar 3D che rende visibili gli utenti come una forma (anche umanoide) tridimensionale. La prima cosa che viene in mente, quando parliamo di chat e instant messaging, sono le emoticons ed i disegni animati.

Grazie a Weblin, viene proposto un nuovo modo di gestire la propria identità virtuale ed arricchire le proprie forme di comunicazione: utilizzando gli avatar di Weblin, interamente creati dalla società di Amburgo, Zweitgeist e attivabili dal sito Weblin (www.weblin.com).
Per capire di cosa stiamo parlando, riportiamo per chiarezza che Weblin è un sistema di comunicazione on-line che utilizza all posto di emoticons e chat testuali, degli avatar personali e personalizzabili come personaggi in stile 3D che parlano tra loro e visualizzano i propri dialoghi in fumetti “balloon”. Questi avatar, trovano la loro popolarità nella possibilità di non esistere solo nella realtà di Weblin, ma potendo essere utilizzati e trasferiti anche in altri siti (tra i più illustri ricordiamo MSN, MySpace, YouTube, eBay e Google). La possibilità offerta da questa tipologia di avatar, è comprensibile con un esempio. Nel caso in cui stessimo su YouTube a guardare un video, apparirà il nostro avatar 3D in basso e di conseguenza tutti gli avatar dei nostri amici con la possibilità di avviare una sessione di chat ed esprimere le proprie emozioni con i movimenti animati preconfezionati tipo il ridere, l’esultare, il ballare.
In pratica si scrive come in una chat normale, ma la rappresentazione avviene tramite avatar 3D che parla grazie ai fumetti.
L’utilizzo sta crescendo a dismisura, sono ormai oltre i due milioni gli iscritti a Weblin. Par cominciare subito ad esplorare questo nuovo mondo di Instant Messaging, ci si può registrare gratis al sito e scaricare l’applicativo. Esiste anche una versione lite del client che non richiede istallazione per gli utenti di Linux, Ubuntu e Mac utilizzabile in live collegandosi all’indirizzo http://lite.weblin.com.
