Sempre più le startup si affidano sempre più al cloud computing. Il cloud computing è un insieme di tecnologie informatiche che permette l’utilizzo di Storage Memory e CPU  in maniera eterogenea e distribuita. A questa tipologia si sta affidando anche il nuovo progetto di Tweet Photo che consentirà di effettuare l’upload multiplo di foto da condividere successivamente su Twitter e Facebook. Per fare tutto ciò, è arrivata la comunicazione ufficiale sulla scelta delle cloud RackSpace di Mosso. RackSpace, da canto suo è una multinazionale leader nel settore dell’hosting che ha sedi negli Stati Uniti, in Europa e nel Sud Africa. E l’ideatrice del sistema Fanatical Support, basato su efficienza, sicurezza, affidabilità e tempestività nelle risposte. La gestione che verrà affidata alla casa sarà sia a livello di Storage che a livello computazionale. I due servizi utilizzati per questo progetto sono CloudSites e CloudFiles. Questo utilizzo di servizi espandibili, è stato indispensabile nell’ipotesi sempre più certa di un’eventuale crescita nel tempo del network, questo anche perchè stiamo parlando di servizi costruiti ad oggetti e quindi complicati da gestire soprattutto a livello di storage (vedi Facebook).
Anche se in linea di massima la scelta dei servizi da utilizzare è solitamente dettata dai costi iniziali per le soluzioni, soprattutto in caso di data center, in questo caso si è pensato di mettere in primo piano l’aspetto performance del modello. Infatti, i servizi offerti da RackSpace, sono divenuti sempre più noti negli ultimi tempi al punto da arrivare fino ad un azzardo da parte della compagnia di Mosso nel tentare la competizione diretta con Amazon, il leader indiscusso del mercato fino ad oggi.
Secondo i rumors, da parte di RackSpace, sono state fondamentali le acquisizioni di Slicehost e di JungleDisk che hanno rafforzato ancora maggiormente il know how tecnico della compagnia in questo settore, al punto di consentire alla stessa di imporsi prepotentemente nel mercato direttamente come leader.
