Il successo per la scrittrice inglese J.K. Rowling è stato ed è enorme grazie al suo lavoro della saga del maghetto bambino Harry Potter. Nonostante il successo e i vantaggi che ha portato il mago all’autrice (che oggi è una delle persone ricche e influenti della letteratura mondiale), lei, in ogni modo cerca di tenere i suoi personaggi lontani dal mondo del Web. Questa mission impossible, viene perseguita con dei pessimi fini secondo le statistiche. La scrittrice inglese, ha cominciato quindi la sua battaglia contro il web, partendo dall’accusa fatta al sito Scribd, di ospitare una serie enorme di copie illegali della serie del giovane Harry Potter, uploadati in maniera “pirata” dagli utenti. Scribd, dal canto suo, ha invece dichiarato che non ci sono cause legali in corso legate al sito e che secondo i propri contatti, né J. K. Rowling né altri autori hanno in programma di denunciare il sito per questioni di copyright. Fatto sta che l’autrice britannica si trova comunque in disappunto con quanto pubblicato on-line perchè seppur esiste un sistema interno al network che impedisce la pubblicazione di testi coperti da diritti di autore, continuano comunque a spuntare on-line copie dei suoi testi.
Ad oggi il social network Scribd, ha dichiarato il proprio rifiuto di effettuare il monitoraggio attivo dei contenuti inseriti dagli utenti, limitandosi esclusivamente ad interventi effettuati dietro la segnalazione degli altri utenti o di terzi. Questo spiegabile per il peso economico che porterebbe l’operazione del monitoraggio attivo. Scribd e Issuu, i due network letterari per eccellenza, stanno vivendo un doppio lato della medaglia per questa situazione. Se da un lato questo attacco potrebbe ledere la reputazione on-line dei network, perchè potrebbe portare molti autori a lamentele e cause legali contro i siti, c’altro canto, come è già successo per la musica on-line, potrebbe anche essere un ausilio ai media tradizionali che non riescono più a raggiungere determinate fasce di popolazione.
In effetti il gioco vale la candela secondo i rumors che continuano a supportare la diffusione della cultura su nuovi media e su tecnologie sempre più condivise.
