I numeri di Facebook sono tutti altissimi, che si tratti di users, o di introiti che il suo giovane creatore, Mark Zuckerberg, si sta portando a casa grazie a questa intuizione geniale. Non tutti sanno, però, alcuni dettagli che riguardano il Social Network più utilizzato del mondo.

Ad esempio, non tutti sanno che il primo, vero finanziatore di Facebook è Peter Thiel, il co-fondatore di Pay-pal, che ha decisamente dato un colpo, in positivo, all’avvio del progetto, con i 500 mila dollari investiti. Le cifre sui reali fruitori del servizio di social networking fanno girare la testa: gli utenti sono in totale 400 milioni nel mondo, che entrano nel loro profilo almeno una volta al mese. La metà di questi entra nella propria pagina ogni giorno: stiamo parlando di almeno 200 milioni di persone.

Secondo le stime, Facebook vale tra i 7, 5 e gli 11 bilioni di dollari: Zuckerberg ha ricevuto, nel 2006, una gustosa offerta da parte di Yahoo, che lui ha prontamente rifiutato. Il social è diventato talmente onnipervasivo che gli psicologi, per definire la dipendenza da Facebook hanno inventanto una nuova patologia: disordine da dipendenza da Fb.

Tra le fan page più famose, al primo posto campeggia quella dedicata a Michael Jackson, seguito da Homer Simpson, la stessa pagina dedicata a Facebook e quella per Barack Obama. In totale, si trascorrono su Facebook 8, 3 bilioni di ore al mese, conteggiando le attività di tutti gli utenti del mondo, che leggono il Social in 70 lingue diverse. Le parole più citate sul Social tra il 2008 e il 2009 sono state Applicazioni Facebook, Lady Gaga e Influenza Suina. Sono numeri che fanno girare la testa, soprattutto quelli che riguardano il valore effettivo di questo progetto, iniziato per caso nella mente di un universitario, anche se, tra le curiosità, spicca soprattutto quella legata all’origine del Social: pare infatti che Zuckerberg l’abbia rubata a un gruppo di colleghi che stava sviluppando a tutti gli effetti quello che sarebbe poi diventato il più remunerativo fenomeno mondiale di tutti i tempi.
