Oggi parliamo di un’inchiesta diffusa dal Wall Street Journal, che parla di Facebook, privacy, guadagni e FarmVille. Le storie trite e ritrite, continuano a generare discussioni senza fine, a cui sembra impossibile una risoluzione.
Nel mirino d’accusa è FarmVille, il videogames che da accesso a tutti gli iscritti al social network, che permette loro di diventare dei contadini virtuali e quindi di coltivare prati e campagne, ed allevare animali. Inoltre, in tutte le aree del gioco si è vicini di terra dei propri amici inclusi nei contatti di Facebook.

Il gioco ed il giocare sono gratuiti, ed infatti, si è raggiunti a ben 59 milioni di contadini virtuali. La dimostrazione data dal quotidiano è però che le agenzie pubblicitarie, utilizzano per le loro campagne, le informazioni che vengono condivise da FarmVille ed altri giochi del social network, anche senza il consenso degli interessati. Inoltre, da FarmVille, nello specifico, si ha accesso a tutto l’elenco degli amici della rubrica digitale (spesso menzionata da Mark Zuckerberg), cioè, quella che contiene tutto l’insieme delle relazioni dell’utente del social network.
Oltre a questo, è stato mostrato come negli Stati Uniti d’America, il motore di ricerca Bing, riuscisse a segnalare anche il cosiddetto grafo sociale del mi piace, cioè, tutte le preferenze dei propri amici direttamente nel motore di ricerca.
